Getting started
How do I add a script?
Create a script in the app, or import a text or PDF file. Open it from Library to edit it, use the full-screen prompter, or record a video.
Importing files requires Pro. The free plan includes up to 3 scripts, and your existing scripts stay available if a subscription ends.
How do I change the scrolling speed?
Tap Play to start the countdown, then adjust the speed in words per minute. Drag the text to move to another line, and tap the text to show hidden controls.
Can I edit the script while I’m prompting or recording?
Yes, while the text is stopped. Tap Edit or long-press a word in the text. When you save, the prompter picks up at the line you were reading.
How do I find a script?
Search matches titles, script text and collections. Add scripts you use often to Favorites. The menu next to each script has editing, collections, duplication and export.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26.5 or later.
Recording
Where should I put the text so I look into the camera?
Move the text window as close to the front camera as you can. Drag its handle to move it and its corner to resize it. You can also change the text size, background opacity and reading guide in the session controls.
Where are my recordings saved?
Every take is kept automatically on your device. Find them in Settings → Saved recordings.
Recordings are not included in iCloud or device backups, and deleting the app deletes them. To keep a copy, use Save to Photos or Share.
How do I record in landscape?
Rotate your device before you start a take. The orientation stays fixed while the take is recording.
Why is my video mirrored, or not mirrored?
The selfie preview is always mirrored, like a mirror. Whether the saved video is mirrored is a separate setting: Settings → Camera & recording → Mirror front-camera video.
How do retakes, best takes and trimming work?
After a take, Record another keeps the same camera and text window, rewinds the script and starts the next take. Mark as best picks one take per session. Trim sets a new start and end without changing the original file.
Save to Photos and Share use the saved trim. Export original ignores it.
These take tools, and joining several takes into one video, require Pro. Recording, playback, exporting and deleting are always free.
I deleted a recording by mistake. Can I get it back?
No. Deleting asks you to confirm first, then removes the app’s copy from your device. Copies you saved to Photos or shared aren’t affected.
Captions
How do automatic captions work?
Open a take and tap Captions, then choose the language you spoke. Overscript captions what you actually said, not the script, and the speech recognition runs on your device. iOS may need to download a speech model for the language first, and Overscript asks before it does.
Recognized words can be wrong, so you can correct the text, add, delete, split or merge captions, and adjust their timing. Pick a style, position and text size, then tap Done to save.
How do I export captions?
Turn on Include captions to burn them into the video when you use Save to Photos or Share. Export subtitles (.srt) shares a subtitle file instead. Export original leaves out both captions and trim.
Do captions need Pro?
Generating and editing captions require Pro. Viewing captions, Include captions, exporting and removing them are free, and stay free after a subscription ends.
My language isn’t in the list.
The list shows the languages your device’s speech recognition supports. It depends on your device and iOS version.
Remotes and external displays
How do I use a Bluetooth clicker, pedal or keyboard?
Pair it in iOS Settings → Bluetooth, then open Settings → Remote setup & test in Overscript to check its buttons. Testing is free; using a remote during a session requires Pro.
| Space Enter Page Down | Control the text. In camera mode you can assign them to recording instead. |
|---|---|
| V | Start or stop recording, or cancel a countdown |
| Arrow keys | Change the speed or jump |
| R | Restart the text |
| M | Mirror the text |
| Esc | Show the controls |
Can I show the prompter on another screen?
Yes, with Pro. Connect an HDMI display or use AirPlay, and the prompter appears on that screen.
Account and sync
Do I need an account?
No. Scripts are saved on your device. Sign in with Apple or Google only if you want to sync scripts between your devices.
What does script sync include?
When signed in, choose which scripts to sync in Settings → Script sync (up to three). Synced scripts keep one previous saved version. Sync is not a separate backup, and videos are never uploaded.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account & subscription → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your profile and synced scripts. Scripts you created while signed out stay on your device. You can also email us to ask for deletion. See the privacy policy for details.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your Apple account settings, below.
Subscription
What does Pro include?
Unlimited scripts, importing from files, takes and retakes (best take, trim, join), automatic captions, external display and Bluetooth remote control. Pro is available monthly or yearly.
How do I cancel or change my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, then choose Overscript. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
I paid but Pro isn’t unlocked.
Make sure you’re signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you subscribed with, then open the Pro screen in Overscript and tap Restore. If it still doesn’t unlock, email us.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
